Cinderella Games and Activities for Kids!

Every little girl dreams and wishes of becoming Cinderella- escaping the harsh realities of life with an evil step mother with the help of their very own Fairy Godmother, meeting a Prince and then living happily ever after. Dance Exploration, LLC allows little girls, with dreams of becoming a princess, the opportunity to life like Cinderella for a day…actually five days with our Fairy Tale Princess Dance Camps.

Each year Dance Exploration, LLC hosts Fairy Tale Princess Dance Camps as Summer Camp opportunities for children at locations around the Denver and Colorado metro areas! Over the past six years, we’ve developed a handful of fun games that kids can play to interactively learn and explore each of their favorite princesses! Designed as a story board to take the dancers on an adventure exploring the plot, characters, conflicts and resolutions that each princess must go through. We’ve created a fun and magical summer camp experience that every little princess can enjoy! Here’s a small peek into Cinderella games that are great for Birthday Parties too!

Decorating Cinderella’s Dress for the Ball

Our Fairy Tale Princess Dance Camps would not be complete without Cinderella’s little army of mice who heave ho all day long to ensure that Cinderella gets her chores done and can make it to the ball! Our little Princesses get to experience life as a mouse and attach fun fabric: bows, beads, ribbons, and lace to Cinderella’s plain ball gown. The options for decorating the dress are endless and the fabric pieces are easily removed so the game can be played again! How many different ways can we decorate Cinderella’s dress?

Cinderella’s Suds

We all know that, although the mice tried so hard, Cinderella’s evil stepmother did not allow her to go to the ball. Instead she was told to clean the chateau until they returned. Cinderella, was sad of course, but she always has a way to see the good side of everything- even cleaning. The next game we play at Fairy Tale Princess Dance Camps is Cinderella’s Suds. The dance floor is covered with balloons. As the music plays, they dance but when the music stops their instructor shouts “Bubbles!” and they all dance with their bubbles until the music plays again.

Bibbity Bobbity Boo Game

All our Princesses receive a Magic Wind, Tiara, and Fairy Wings as part of the Essential Princess Necessities kit. After all our princesses receive their necessities kit we get ready to play Bibbity Bobbity Boo! Each dancer gets a chance to be the Fairy Godmother. With a wave of her magic wand she can turn her fellow dancers into anything: a princess, a horse, a bird, or a frog…as long as she says Bibbity Bobbity Boo, the options are endless.

The Hunt for the Glass Slipper

Our Fairy Godmother visits the dance studio the day before Camp begins and leaves her Fairy Godmother clues around the dance studio to help the dancers find Cinderella’s missing glass slipper. Clues like: ‘The Tea Party table hides your next clue, skip to the table to find it.’ When the dancers complete all the proper dance moves to find the glass slipper, they find the slipper safe and sound. The game wouldn’t be complete without each princess getting to check if the glass slippers are a perfect fit.

Celebrating going Back to School in Dance Class

We’ve had a great start to our Back to School Dance Classes for the 2014/2015 school year! We couldn’t be happier with all that our children are learning and with an upcoming Nuggets performance, we will be able to share their progress with a live audience!

This year, in our preschool classes, we have been creating a monthly theme of which to base our weekly curriculum and song choices!

Our September theme was ‘Back to School!’
Our kids enjoyed some fun activities based entirely on going back to school! We are going to share some of the fun activities that the kids learned during the month of September. You are more than welcome to try any of these in your dance classes! The next time you’re looking for a ‘Back to School!’ dance game or activity for your little ones, give any of these a try! Leave us a comment and let us know how you like it!

Warm Up Activity: Pack a Lunch
Sitting in a Straddle position go around the circle and ask each child individually what they want for lunch.

Jimmy wants a sandwich- Reach towards your right foot. Grab a sandwich and put it in your box (drum the floor in the center of your legs).
Sally wants an apple- Reach towards your left foot. Grab an apple and put it in your box (drum the floor in the center of your legs).

When all the kids had a turn, eat your lunch up. Starting towards your right foot, bend forward and across the floor to the left foot. Ask, “Who still has food left? Raise your hand!” Then start from the left foot, bend forward and across the floor to the right foot. Be sure to make your “Nom, Nom, Nom!” noises!

Around the Room Activity: Wheels on the Bus
Standing in the middle of the room in the circle sing, ‘The Wheels on the Bus go ‘Round and ‘Round!’

March around the circle and add a different movement to each verse.

The Wheels on the bus go ’round and ’round: March while circling your arms to the right and to the left

The Wipers on the bus go swish swish swish: March while doing swishing arms above your head

Students at BMH-BJ demonstrate how they march in a circle during 'The Wheels on the Bus!' activity.

The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep: Bend your knees and bounce each time the horn goes beep

The lights on the bus go on and off: When the lights are on do a big jump with arms out. When the lights go off jump in and get little.

The driver on the bus says ‘Sit, Sit, Sit’: Make a pointing finger and bounce. Tell a friend to sit, sit sit.

When you’ve done it a few times, have the kids sing and dance the song on their own!
Across the Floor Activity: Late for School Obstacle Course!

Put together a fun, ‘Late to School!’ Obstacle Course.

Clear the room and put down items in a pathway that the child must jump, climb, or crawl through.

For example: Mats on the floor can be rocks the child must hop scotch on.
Jump ropes could be stairs that they have to leap down. Hula Hoops can be puddles they must jump in.
They need to crawl through a tunnel to get to their spot on the bus.

Benefits of After School Enrichment Programs

Dance Exploration, LLC offers major benefits to school children as an after school enrichment program! We bring our educational “Dance to Learn!” Curriculum to children in preschools, day cares, elementary schools and middle and high schools!

Our business philosophy is “Every child should have the chance to dance!”

Miss Jackie teaches a child how to do first position "Pizza Feet!"

Miss Jackie teaches a child how to do first position “Pizza Feet!”

Many schools are now cutting budgets for enrichment programs due to the state of our economy! We can understand why they feel the need to make this change, however, enrichment programs offer great benefits to children in schools!

Here are some of the benefits of After School Enrichment Programs such as Dance Exploration, LLC:

  • Not all children learn the same way. Enrichment Programs can help children learn math, science, reading and often times other languages in a fun new way.
  • The best enrichment programs teach the whole child and can take into account different learning styles of the children. The best enrichment programs should be offered to coincide with the syllabus taught in schools as a complimentary program.
  • When scheduling an after school enrichment program, look for those that offer a literacy program, such as Dance Exploration, LLC’s Terpsichore Literacy Program! A Reading readiness program for children will bring huge value to your students and help them with their language development.
  • An enrichment program allows children to think in a more creative way, this can help them with their problem solving skills and allow them to come up with new solutions to common problems.
  • Enrichment programs, such as dance in particular, can help students with confidence! When a step they have been struggling with is mastered, they will have a new found confidence to realize that hard work, perseverance, and pursuing goals is worth it! This can even give children a new motivation and reason to complete high school and graduate!
  • A well rounded enrichment program will also teach children important social skills: working together with others, being a team, solving common disputes among peers. Look for a program that encourages large groups of children to come together and work together.
  • When booking an after school enrichment program, look for a program that actively includes the families in their child’s learning progress. The Dance Exploration Family Engagement Program is an example of a program that actively involves the families in their child’s learning.

These are so many more benefits of having an Enrichment Program such as Dance Exploration at your school.
